New dates for the fall Citizen Prosecutor Academy have been released! The fall session will begin September 9 and will go through November 11. The classes are Thursday nights 6:30- 9:00. There is very limited room, so get your application in ASAP! Application deadline is Monday, August 30 at 5:00pm. If you have any questions, please contact Amanda Allen. We hope to see you this fall!
There is an exciting new avenue for discovery, involvement and leadership available to residents of Collin County: the Collin County District Attorney’s Citizen Prosecutor Academy. New classes will be held in the spring and fall of each year.
Each class will consist of about 35 persons from around Collin County. Age limit is 18 or older. There is an application process and, of course, a criminal background check involved before you can be considered for acceptance to the Academy. Once you are accepted, your class will meet one night each week (on Thursdays) from 6:30pm-9:00pm for ten weeks. Experts from various divisions within the DA’s Office and other law enforcement agencies will conduct the classes and presentations. You will learn how criminal cases are handled from intake/grand jury through trial to appeal. You will hear from the Medical Examiner, see a presentation from a local narcotics unit, learn how the intoxilyzer (breath test instrument) works, visit the Child Advocacy Center, and gain a behind-the-scenes understanding of real-world prosecution and law enforcement, including how the District Attorney decides whether and under what circumstance to seek the death penalty in a capital case.
Interested? Class size is limited, and the selection process is intensive, so you are encouraged to apply as soon as you can. Join this class and experience the academy in the NEW COLLIN COUNTY COURTHOUSE.
