(McKinney, Texas) –Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis announced today that Benjamin Brumlow, 58, of Kilgore, Texas, was sentenced to 40 years in prison without the possibility of parole for the Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child.
A Betrayal of Trust: Years of Abuse Uncovered
Brumlow fostered two children before eventually adopting them. Around the time of the adoption, he began sexually abusing the older child, and the abuse continued for several years.
In 2019, Brumlow targeted the younger child, beginning another cycle of abuse. It wasn’t until 2022 that the younger child bravely spoke out, revealing the abuse both children had endured.
Investigation and Conviction
Plano Police Detective Chris Jones led the investigation. Both victims were forensically interviewed at the Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center, where they provided detailed accounts of the abuse.
Justice Served: 40 Years Without Parole
A Collin County jury found Brumlow guilty of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, after which Judge Kim Cooks sentenced Brumlow to 40 years in prison. Under Texas law, a conviction for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child carries no possibility of parole—ensuring Brumlow will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
DA Greg Willis: “The Community Deserves to Know Justice Was Served”
“The depths of this betrayal are unthinkable—he took in these children as a father, only to become their worst nightmare. But justice has spoken. And thanks to the bravery of these survivors and the tireless work of Plano Police and our prosecutors, this predator will never harm another child again. Our community deserves to know that we will always fight for the most vulnerable and ensure that justice is served.”
Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Nicole DeVincenzi and Alex Haynes prosecuted the case, assisted by District Attorney Investigator Greg Bowers, Victim Assistance Coordinator Melissa White, and Legal Secretary Ramnpreet Kaur.
