(McKinney, Texas) – Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis announced that Sharif Ahmad Jasmine, 26, of Fort Worth, Texas, was sentenced to 50 years in prison without the possibility of parole for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child.
Years of Abuse Uncovered:
Jasmine sexually abused the child for three years, beginning when the victim was just 10 years old. The abuse was discovered when the child’s mother found explicit social media messages in which Jasmine discussed the abuse and solicited sexually explicit videos and pictures from the child.
McKinney Police Department Sergeant Bruce Tyner led the investigation. Evidence revealed that Jasmine manipulated the child by offering to pay for Wi-Fi services on the child’s smartphone, knowing the mother did not want the child to have access. In exchange for continuing to pay for the service, Jasmine coerced the child into sending explicit videos and pictures. When the child did not comply, Jasmine would threaten to cut off the phone’s connectivity.
The child provided details of the years-long abuse during a forensic interview at the Children’s Advocacy Center of North Texas. A Collin County jury convicted Jasmine after hearing testimony from the victim, law enforcement, and child advocacy experts.
Jasmine Flees Trial, Captured After Month-Long Manhunt
During sentencing, prosecutors presented evidence that Jasmine, who was out on bond awaiting his November 2023 jury trial, cut off his ankle monitor in the courthouse parking lot on the morning of trial and fled. After nearly a month as a fugitive, Jasmine was located and apprehended by the Collin County Sheriff’s Office, led by Deputy Reid Golson.
Prosecutors also introduced evidence of Jasmine’s history of domestic violence, including a prior felony probation in Texas, a six-month prison sentence in Missouri, and additional abuse against another woman. Judge Carmen Rivera-Worley sentenced Jasmine to 50 years in prison. By law, a sentence for Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child is without eligibility for parole.
DA Greg Willis: “Collin County Hunts Down Child Predators”
“Jasmine has a long history of abuse against women and is all too familiar with the criminal justice system. On the very morning of his trial, he made the cowardly decision to cut off his ankle monitor in the courthouse parking lot and run. But justice caught up with him. His guilt was clear, and so was Collin County’s determination to hunt him down and bring him to trial. The women and children in his life are safer with Jasmine behind bars.”
Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Alex Haynes and Charles Brazell prosecuted the case, assisted by District Attorney Investigators Greg Bowers and Michael Owens, Victim Assistance Coordinators Valerie Miller, Dixie Harden, Jill Moore, and Melissa White.
